Masyw górski Montserrat ciągnie się na długości 10km.
Od Barcelony dzieli go 40 km jadąc w kierunku północno-zachodnim.
"serra" w języku katalońskim znaczy dosłownie "postrzępiony", czyli "postrzępione
góry" nazwa nadana ze względu na skojarzenie jakie wywołują skały oglądane
z pewnej odległości. Ale nie jestem tego pewna. W przyszłym tygodniu zweryfikuję
to po konsultacji z moim katalońskim kolegą.
Główny szczyt Sant Jeroni wynosi 1,236 m.
Montgrós (1,120 m) i Miranda de les Agulles (903 m).
"Montserrat" literally means "saw (serrated, like the common handsaw)
mountain" in Catalan. It describes its peculiar aspect with multitude of r
rock formations which are visible from a great distance. The mountain is
composed of strikingly pink conglomerate, a form of sedimentary rock.
Montserrat is Spain's first National Park.
The main peaks are Sant Jeroni (1,236 m),
Montgrós (1,120 m) and Miranda de les Agulles (903 m).[1]
The Caribbean island of Montserrat was named
by Christopher Columbus after the mountain.
